Let's first take quick know-how on how to install the GunVault SV500. What we did was, before the installation, we opened the safe. Firstly with the help of the key you open one half and then there are two screws on another side which we began. The screwdriver with which we unscrewed the safe is included with the product.
After removing the parts, we could finally see what was inside the safe. We took a close look at the portion where the battery is. So, we put the battery first. There was an LED light there which seemed to work, and everything seemed alright. So we inserted the battery into the small portion where it should be inside the safe, and the part comes with an attached cover to close it.
We could also see a learn button and mute button. We thought of getting to that later. First, we took the mounting plate to where we wanted to install it. We chose a place in our office/studio to install the safe. We made sure the mounting plate was as straight as possible. We then marked the four holes on the mounting plate with the help of a marker. By the way, the mounting plate is the one with which you hang or attach the gun safe on to a wall or surface.
The mark on the surface made by the marker are the places where we drilled to hold the mounting plate. Four small silver screws come with the product which we use to put on the positions where we dug for the mounting plate to be held on to the surface.
Next, we moved to put the box up onto the mounting plate. On one side of the box has three holes. That is the place where we used the three short screws that came with the product. Since there are three mounting options available with the product, you can use three different sides to hang the product on the plate. We put the case according to our liking on to the mounting plate and used the three short screws to tighten the box onto the plate.
We wanted to make sure everything was nice and tight and used a flathead screwdriver and tightened the three screws. Before we tried to put the last piece, there was a small stopper that we wanted to install as well. The stopper also had two screws.
For those two screws, we used our fingers first to tighten them slightly and then use a screwdriver. Once we were done with the stopper, we noticed it had a spring too!
Finally, we put the actual cover. There was a plate which we had removed initially, we put that too on and attached the sheet and the small plate with the help of the screws.
While doing all this, make sure you install the mounting plate at least a reasonable distance from the surface so that you have enough space and so that everything will open properly. Once all was done, we moved on to programming.
On the bottom, as we initially pointed out, there was a learn button if you'll remember. We clicked it for two seconds until we heard a beep. The green light will remain through all this. That is the time when you choose the code. We chose 1234 for the time being. Then we pressed the learn button again for two seconds.
When the light remains red, we did the same code again, that is 1234. Then, again press the learn button. After doing so five times, we are done with the process.
That is it, guys! We pressed 1234, and the cover with the gun popped open. With this step, the installation and the programming were over. There was also another button on the right side, which is the mute button. It is for when you do not want to hear sounds when you press the buttons or enter any codes you press the mute button. So, you need to press the mute button for about two seconds. We did that.
Then closed the gunsafe cover and tried entering the codes. We saw that now it made no sounds. You can also turn it back to unmute mode by again pressing the mute button for 2 seconds. We did that too to test it. Tried closing the cover and entering the code post that. The sounds were back and were working fine.
There are so many things to consider before you ahead and purchase a gun safe. But you need not worry. We are here to make things easy for you. We gather the most important things for you so that you can make the best buying decisions. This review will consist of all the essential points about this gun safe so that you know them before you go ahead and purchase this gun safe.
The gun safe has already been reviewed by many and also used and tested by many. You can make out from this that there is quite a buzz in the market about this gun safe.
The first thing we fell in love with in the gun safe is the tamper indicator. So if someone tried to enter the wrong code, you would be able to find out that someone attempted to open it with an incorrect code.
Next is the override backup key. In case the battery died, or for some reason, you forgot the code, the manufacturer has included two keys with the gun safe. The two override keys come in a box, two tiny keys of course in case your battery dies, or you forget your access code.
The gun safe will warn you before the battery dies. It won't just beep randomly. If you open the safe and if it were large batteries it would beep seven times. In case your battery dies, you use your backup key, twist it, and opens up.
Security sleep mode is another feature that we loved. The sleep mode is that if someone tries to enter 24 or more times incorrect code, it will trigger the security sleep mode. So, for two minutes, the actual keypad will not accept any codes. It is another security level for the product.
Furthermore, there are three different mounting options. So there are multiple mounting options for the product, which is an outstanding feature in this product. You can install it next to your bed. You can install it on the wall, some other options, of course, depending on your furniture next to your bed and stuff like that. So that is something that is included as well.
Now, the most crucial reason why we love this product is that it is child-resistant. Yes, it is a child-resistant gun safe. So if you have curious children in the house and they happen to come to your bedroom, and they tend to mess up things and look for stuff, especially small children, this great gun safe will give you a perfect solution for the amount of money you are paying for it. It also gives you an ideal amount of fo security at the same time. It is in a nutshell why we recommend this product.
We tested the gun safe by entering wrong codes. Pressed two numbers for two seconds and you will see the red light come up. So the red light indicates that someone tried to enter the wrong code on the keypad.
The GunVault SV500 is a very convenient one to have. You can put it anywhere, even under your working table. That way, you can have access to your firearm whenever you want. There is plenty of room in this GunVault. There is room for a new magazine, and it came with something that interested us. It was the Flambeau zero rust corrosion protection stick. As far as our knowledge goes, these sticks give out some vapors that help resist corrosion. We had never used them before. But, we had heard pretty good reviews about them. They came in with the product, and we unwrapped it and put it in.
We tied putting in a full sized 9-millimeter gun, and it fit in just fine. Also, the LED light inside the safe that we talked about are for when in case you are actuating your safe in the night time, you can see the gun because of the light.
Also, if we did not mention, it's essential to know the gun safe is battery operated. It means you do not need to plug it in anywhere. It takes a 9 volt Duracell battery. We recommend you get yourself that 10-year lithium 9 volts battery used for smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
The gun safe is not fireproof. It is only 18 Gauge steel. It is sturdy enough, and when you actuate the gun safe, it does shake around, and you can realize the steel quality is pretty sturdy.
The gun safe does an excellent job. Is it undefeatable? Of course not. No safe is. With a crowbar or hammer, someone who is going to want to get inside will get to get inside.
What we think the primary purpose of safe this is to keep your kids out of it. If you would like to keep your gun in your office, you really shouldn't be like in the TV shows where they show a gun just in your drawer. That's something foolish. You want to keep the kids out.
With the temper mode on, by pressing two and three together for about five minutes and if the light glows red, you can know someone tampered with your gun safe. Especially, if you have kids in the house and you want to check on them while away by activating the tamper mode you know of it and later on talk with them to be away from the gun safe.
Another cool feature is that you can program and combine key presses as part of s single entry as your code too!
The gun safe overall is simple to install, simple to use. You can find them at your local sporting stores, but also get an excellent deal on Amazon. It is priced at $167 plus free shipping. The same model also comes with a biometric version where you can do a thumbprint or use your fingerprint to open.
